Know the home, know the fault
Positioned right on the border of Dartmoor, the settlement features over a hundred listed buildings situated in the valley of the River Bovey. Kitchens in these older properties vary greatly in size and layout. Historic homes might have limited counter space, leading owners to choose built-in or combination microwaves to save room. The area also hosts multiple events throughout the year, drawing tourists, which means some properties serve as holiday accommodation where kitchen appliances see varied use by different guests. Built-in and combination models are complex machines that handle both standard microwaving and traditional heating. A unit that runs but fails to heat points to a fault in the magnetron, high voltage diode, or capacitor. Turntables that refuse to rotate usually have a failed synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor or a broken drive coupling. Door latches and microswitches are also critical components. If the interlock switches fail to register the door as closed, the control board will prevent the appliance from starting. Combination units might also suffer from failed heating elements or convection fans, leaving food cold despite the display showing a running timer. During an in-home visit, we examine built-in and combination microwaves that will not heat or turn. We look at door latch and switch faults, unresponsive controls and displays, and the internal components responsible for generating microwave energy. Our domestic appliance repair service covers electric appliances only, so we do not work on gas cookers or any gas appliance. Our working area extends to nearby towns like Ashburton and Newton Abbot.

Call 01752 922765A microwave that sounds like it is running normally but does not heat food usually has a fault in the high voltage circuit. This involves the magnetron, the high voltage capacitor, or the diode. In combination models, a failed heating element or convection fan can also prevent the oven from reaching the correct temperature.
Turntables rely on a small synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. If this motor burns out or the drive coupling snaps, the glass plate will not turn. Food spills that harden around the roller ring or the central spindle can also physically block the rotation mechanism.
This happens when the control board does not receive a signal that the door is securely closed. Microwaves have multiple door latch microswitches for safety. If one switch fails or the plastic door hooks break, the appliance will not start. A faulty membrane keypad can also cause unresponsive buttons.
