Know the home, know the fault
Properties in the largest town within the national park range from older buildings reflecting its origins as a farming settlement around a stream, to modern family homes serving pupils at the local secondary school. In busy kitchens, perhaps inspired by the culinary academy established to the north of the settlement, built-in and combination microwaves see heavy use for defrosting, reheating and cooking. When a built-in unit stops working, it disrupts daily meal preparation and leaves an awkward gap in the fitted kitchen setup. A microwave that runs but fails to heat the food inside usually points to a failed magnetron, a blown high-voltage diode or a tripped thermal fuse. Turntables that refuse to rotate are another issue, typically caused by a faulty synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor, a broken drive coupling or debris blocking the roller ring. Door latch and switch faults can prevent the appliance from starting altogether, as the safety interlocks must engage fully before the unit will operate. Control panels and digital displays on combination models can also become unresponsive, making it impossible to select the correct cooking programme or adjust the timer. We repair built-in and combination microwaves directly in your home, travelling to properties here and in nearby places like Buckfastleigh. During a visit, we look at the door switches, turntable motors, heating components and control boards to find out why the appliance will not heat or turn. We also repair electric ovens, electric cookers and other domestic appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765When a microwave sounds like it is running normally but the food remains cold, the issue is usually within the high-voltage circuit. This involves checking the magnetron, the high-voltage capacitor and the diode. A failed door switch can also interrupt the heating process while allowing the fan and light to operate.
A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a faulty synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. Alternatively, the plastic drive coupling that connects the motor to the glass tray might be cracked, or the roller ring beneath the tray could be obstructed by food debris.
A blank display usually indicates a problem with the main control board or a blown internal fuse. If the control board is not receiving power, the display will not light up and the buttons will not respond. A faulty door latch switch can also prevent the control panel from functioning correctly.
