Know the home, know the fault

In a rural environment bordered by woodland and agricultural land, appliances housed in unheated utility areas can experience fluctuating ambient temperatures. When a dishwasher stops working, the issue is usually tied to water circulation, heating or drainage. Machines that will not drain often have a blockage in the filter or a jammed drain pump, leaving dirty water sitting in the base. If dishes come out poorly cleaned, the spray arms might be clogged with food debris or the wash motor could be failing to generate enough water pressure. Heating faults, where plates are left wet and cold, point towards a broken heating element or a faulty thermostat. Leaks can develop from worn door seals, while machines that will not start at all usually indicate a problem with the main control board or a faulty door latch. Whether your property is near The Edgcumbe Hotel or elsewhere in the village, we repair appliances in customers' homes. During a visit, we look at draining faults, poor cleaning results, spray arm problems, heating failures, leaks, door seal issues and error codes. We do not work on gas appliances, but we repair electric cooking equipment alongside refrigeration and laundry machines.

Water left in the base usually means the machine cannot drain properly. This happens when food debris blocks the central filter, or if a piece of glass has jammed the drain pump impeller. A kinked drain hose behind the appliance or a blockage where it connects to the sink plumbing will also stop the water from escaping.

If your dishes are cold and wet when the cycle finishes, the dishwasher is experiencing a heating fault. This is typically caused by a blown heating element or a faulty temperature sensor that fails to tell the control board when to heat the water. Without hot water, the machine cannot clean effectively or evaporate the moisture for drying.

Leaks from the front of the machine are usually caused by a damaged or degraded door seal. If water is pooling underneath the appliance, it might be due to a split internal wash hose, a loose connection to the wash motor, or a failing water inlet valve. We inspect the seals and internal components to locate the source.
