Know the home, know the fault
The housing around this peninsula settlement sits in a rural environment bordered by woodland and agricultural fields between two rivers. When a built-in unit stops working, it is much harder to swap out than a freestanding model, leaving a noticeable gap in the daily food preparation routine for households in the area. A microwave that runs but fails to heat is a typical fault with combination and standard built-in models. This happens when the high-voltage components, such as the magnetron or the diode, fail to generate microwave energy. Another issue involves the turntable refusing to rotate, which leads to uneven cooking and is usually caused by a burnt-out synchronous motor located under the cavity floor. Door latch and switch faults will also prevent the appliance from starting at all, as the safety interlocks must engage fully before the control board allows power to the heating elements. Controls and displays can also fade or become unresponsive over time. Whether your property is near The Edgcumbe Hotel or further out towards Bere Ferrers, we repair built-in and combination microwaves directly in your home. We look at units that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, and unresponsive controls or displays. We also cover nearby Tavistock, Gunnislake and Yelverton for domestic appliance repairs.

Call 01752 922765When a microwave runs but does not heat, the fault usually lies within the high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, which generates the microwave energy, may have failed. Alternatively, a faulty high-voltage diode or capacitor will prevent the magnetron from receiving the correct power. We test these internal components to identify which part has stopped working.
A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a broken synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. Liquid spills can sometimes seep through the motor shaft seal and short out the motor. Occasionally, the glass tray coupling or the roller ring itself might be physically damaged or jammed.
This happens when the safety interlock switches in the door assembly fail to register that the door is closed. Microwaves have multiple door switches to prevent operation while open. If the door latch is physically broken or a switch has burnt out, the control board will block power to the heating elements.
