Know the home, know the fault
Properties located on the south-western boundary of Dartmoor include grand villas built during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, situated south and west of the village centre. The area hosts several bed-and-breakfast businesses accommodating walkers and visitors exploring National Trust sites. In these residences and guest houses, a dishwasher is relied upon to handle heavy daily loads of plates. Kitchens in older properties might have freestanding machines, while modernised spaces feature integrated models hidden behind cabinet doors. Both types experience the same mechanical failures over time. A machine that will not drain leaves dirty water pooling in the base, pointing to a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump, or an obstructed waste hose. Poor cleaning results occur when spray arms become clogged with food debris or fail to rotate because the circulation pump is struggling. Heating faults leave dishes cold and wet at the end of a cycle, indicating a blown heating element or a faulty thermostat. Leaks develop from degraded door seals or damaged internal hoses, allowing water to escape. When a dishwasher will not start or displays error codes, the problem might be a faulty door latch or a failed main control board. When travelling out past Roborough Down to look at a broken dishwasher, we investigate the failure. We look at draining faults and water left in the base, poor cleaning results and spray arm problems, heating faults and dishes left wet, leaks and door seal problems, alongside error codes and machines that will not start. Our repair service covers washing machines, tumble dryers, electric ovens, and refrigeration, but we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling in the base means the machine cannot drain properly. This happens when the filter is blocked by food debris, the drain pump is jammed with a foreign object like a piece of broken glass, or the waste hose is obstructed. We can dismantle the sump area to clear blockages and test the pump.
A dishwasher relies on a heating element to raise the water temperature for cleaning and to help dry the load at the end of the cycle. If the element fails or the thermostat stops reading the temperature correctly, the machine washes with cold water. This leaves dishes unwashed and covered in condensation.
When a machine has power but will not start, the control board might be detecting an open door. The door latch contains a microswitch that must engage before the dishwasher allows water to enter. If the latch is physically broken or the switch has failed electrically, the machine will beep or display an error code.
