Homes in Gunnislake

Know the home, know the fault

The settlement of Gunnislake grew rapidly during the nineteenth century due to a boom in mining and industrial activity. Today, the area is mainly residential, featuring housing alongside a handful of local businesses like pubs, garages and small shops. In domestic kitchens across these properties, a dishwasher is expected to handle daily loads of plates and pans. When a machine stops working, dirty dishes quickly pile up on the worktop. A machine that fails to drain will leave standing water in the base of the cabinet, which points to a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump or an obstructed waste hose. If dishes emerge wet and cold at the end of a cycle, the heating element or its associated relays might have failed. Poor cleaning results are another issue, sometimes caused by blocked spray arms that cannot rotate freely to distribute water. Leaks can develop around the front of the appliance if the main door seal perishes or if the hinges become distorted. When a dishwasher refuses to start at all, it might display an error code indicating a fault with the control board or the door latch mechanism. We travel out to properties near King George's Field and the surrounding residential streets to diagnose and repair these faults. During a visit, we check for draining issues, investigate poor cleaning performance and test heating components. We also trace the source of leaks, inspect door seals and read error codes on machines that will not start. We also cover nearby towns such as Tavistock, Callington and Bere Alston.

Standing water in the base usually means the appliance cannot drain. This happens when the filter is blocked by food debris, the drain pump is jammed, or there is an obstruction in the waste hose. We check these components to find the blockage and restore normal draining.

If plates are dirty, the spray arms might be blocked or unable to spin. When dishes are also left wet at the end of a cycle, the machine is likely failing to heat the water. A faulty heating element or a broken control relay will stop the drying process.

Leaks at the front of the machine are heavily linked to the main door seal. Over time, the rubber gasket can perish, split or become coated in grease, stopping it from forming a watertight barrier. Distorted door hinges can also prevent the door from closing tightly against the seal.
