Homes in Tavistock

Know the home, know the fault

Properties around the River Tavy and near the high ground of Dartmoor range from mid-nineteenth-century miners' houses to distinct Bedford style architecture. The area is also expanding as a residential base for commuters working in Plymouth, alongside homes accommodating visitors exploring West Devon. In homes with compact kitchens, dishwashers are sometimes integrated behind matching cabinet doors or fitted tightly under worktops. Extended properties might have freestanding machines in larger utility spaces. Moving or accessing a built-in appliance requires care to avoid damaging the surrounding plinths and hinges. When a dishwasher fails to drain, water is left sitting in the base of the cabinet. This can happen if the drain pump is blocked by food debris or if the waste hose is kinked behind the machine. Poor cleaning results are another issue, which might point to blocked spray arms that cannot rotate freely to distribute water. If dishes are left wet at the end of a cycle, the heating element or its associated sensors may have failed, preventing the water from reaching the correct temperature. Leaks can develop from worn door seals or split internal hoses, while error codes on the display usually indicate a specific component fault that stops the machine from starting. Whether a machine is located near Whitchurch Down or closer to the centre, we repair appliances in customers' homes. During a visit, we look at draining faults, poor cleaning results, spray arm problems and heating faults. We also investigate leaks, door seal problems, error codes and machines that will not start. If a dishwasher is completely unresponsive, the main control board or the door latch mechanism might need attention to restore normal operation.

Water left in the base usually means the machine has failed to drain. The drain pump might be jammed by a piece of broken glass or food debris, or the waste hose could be kinked. We check the pump, the filters and the drainage connections to find out why the water is not clearing.

If dishes are wet at the end of a cycle, the dishwasher is likely not heating the water. The heating element or a temperature sensor may have failed. Without hot water, the final rinse cannot evaporate properly. We inspect the heating components and the main control board to locate the fault.

Poor cleaning results are sometimes caused by spray arm problems. The small holes in the arms can become blocked with seeds or debris, restricting water flow. Alternatively, a faulty wash motor might not be generating enough pressure to spin the arms. We examine the wash pump and the internal water distribution system.
