Know the home, know the fault

Properties in Yelverton sit on the south-western boundary of Dartmoor, ranging from grand late Victorian and Edwardian villas to houses operating as bed and breakfast businesses for walkers visiting local heritage sites. The village originally became a popular commuter residence during the nineteenth century. Integrating a microwave into a cabinet bank keeps worktops clear, which is useful when preparing breakfast for multiple guests or managing a busy family kitchen. Combination models add extra baking and grilling capacity alongside the main electric oven. When a built-in or combination microwave runs but fails to heat food, the magnetron or its associated high-voltage components have usually failed. Turntables that refuse to rotate can result from a burnt-out synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor, a broken drive coupling, or a damaged roller ring. Door latches and microswitches are another area of failure. A microwave relies on a sequence of door switches to operate safely. If just one switch fails to register the door closing, the appliance will not start the cooking cycle. Control panels and digital displays can also become unresponsive, leaving the microwave unable to accept cooking times or power settings. During a visit, we look at built-in and combination models that will not heat, turntables that will not turn, and unresponsive controls or displays. We also trace faults in door latches and safety switches to find out why a unit will not start. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are strictly for electric and induction models, meaning we do not work on gas appliances of any kind.

When a microwave sounds like it is running normally but the food remains cold, the fault usually lies with the magnetron or the high-voltage diode. These components generate the microwave energy required for heating. We repair built-in and combination microwaves in your home, testing these internal parts to identify the failed component.

A turntable that will not rotate is typically caused by a failed synchronous motor located under the cavity floor. It can also be due to a broken plastic drive coupling or a jammed roller ring. Without rotation, food heats unevenly. We look at turntables that will not turn during our repair visits.

Microwaves have a series of safety microswitches inside the door latch mechanism. If one of these switches fails or the latch itself breaks, the appliance will not register that the door is safely closed. This prevents the control panel from starting the cooking cycle. We trace faults in door latches and switches.
