Know the home, know the fault
Houses on the Rame Peninsula, situated south of Saltash, sit in a strong rural setting built around the local fishing industry. Properties near the tidal creek, which was dammed in 1977 as a flood prevention measure, rely heavily on combination laundry appliances when outdoor drying is impractical. The village separated from Maker parish in 1869, and homes here use washer dryers to save space. A washer dryer is a hard-working machine in these households, handling heavy outdoor clothing and daily washes in a single drum. Because they combine two complex systems in one cabinet, these appliances run longer cycles and endure significant thermal stress during the drying phase. When a washer dryer stops drying, the issue might be a failed heater element, a tripped thermal thermostat or a blocked condenser chamber. Clothes remaining damp or cycles that never finish point to restricted airflow or sensors covered in lint. On the washing side, faults include the machine not filling, failing to drain or refusing to spin. Leaks and door seal problems develop when the rubber gasket degrades from constant exposure to high drying temperatures and detergent chemicals. Error codes and control faults can also appear when the main circuit board detects a breakdown in communication between the washing and drying components. A machine that stops washing entirely might have worn motor brushes or a faulty door interlock. During a visit to properties near Innsworke Mill Boat Yard or other parts of the community, we look at the entire appliance to trace the fault. We check the water inlet valves, inspect the drain pump for blockages and test the heating circuits for continuity. We repair electric washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers and washer dryers, but we do not work on gas appliances of any kind. Our engineers carry the tools needed to dismantle the cabinet and access the internal drying ducts.

Call 01752 922765If your machine finishes a cycle but the clothes are soaking wet, the appliance is likely failing to spin or drain. A blocked pump filter can prevent water from leaving the drum, which in turn stops the spin cycle from starting. Worn motor brushes or a snapped drive belt will also stop the drum from turning during the final spin.
A lack of heat during the drying phase is usually caused by a blown heater element or a tripped thermal cutout thermostat. The drying fan might also fail, preventing hot air from circulating through the drum. When the condenser chamber becomes clogged with wet lint, the machine cannot extract moisture, leaving your laundry cold and damp at the end.
Leaks from the front of the machine usually point to a damaged door seal. The rubber gasket on a washer dryer degrades faster than on a standard washing machine because it is exposed to intense heat during the drying cycle. A tear in the rubber or a build-up of lint and hair around the glass bowl will allow water to escape.
