Know the home, know the fault
Properties in a rural fishing area rely heavily on laundry appliances to handle outdoor clothing. This settlement, which became its own parish separate from Maker in the nineteenth century, sits at the head of a tidal creek that was dammed in 1977 to prevent flooding. Homes in such rural locations put a lot of demand on tumble dryers to deal with heavy fabrics. When a machine is used to dry thick workwear, the internal components work hard to extract moisture and vent it away or collect it in a condenser tank. A dryer that runs but does not heat happens when the heating element fails or a thermal overload trips to protect the machine from restricted airflow. If the drum will not turn at all, the drive belt has usually snapped under the strain of tumbling wet clothes, or the motor capacitor has degraded. Machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start might have a faulty door catch or a blocked moisture sensor. Condenser and water container faults also occur when lint bypasses the filters and clogs the pump, while noisy running points to worn drum rollers or tensioner pulleys. When visiting homes near Innsworke Mill Boat Yard or elsewhere in Millbrook, we look at why dryers will not heat, turn or finish a cycle. We check drums that will not turn, investigate machines that stop mid-cycle, and resolve noisy running issues. While we fix washing machines, electric ovens and other domestic appliances, we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765A tumble dryer that runs but does not heat usually has a tripped thermal overload thermostat or a broken heating element. The thermostat trips to protect the machine if airflow is restricted by a blocked lint filter. We check the element, thermostats and the control board to restore the heating function.
When a drum stops turning, the drive belt has usually snapped or stretched. The motor might still run, making a humming noise, but the belt can no longer grip the drum. Another cause is a failing motor start capacitor, which prevents the motor from generating enough power to turn heavy wet laundry.
Condenser dryers leak when the water container is full or if the internal pump gets blocked by wet lint. The moisture extracted from your clothes travels through a pump system to reach the top drawer. If fluff clogs the hoses or the condenser unit itself is blocked, water overflows from the base.
