Know the home, know the fault

The community on the Rame Peninsula has a strong rural setting based around the local fishing industry. Situated four miles south of Saltash, the settlement sits at the head of a tidal creek that was dammed in 1977 to prevent flooding. In rural and coastal homes, a dishwasher is a heavily relied upon appliance for clearing away the daily load of plates and pans. When a machine stops working, it disrupts the household routine, leaving stacks of washing up on the kitchen counter. Dishwashers develop a range of faults over their working life. A machine that will not drain leaves dirty water sitting in the base, which points to a blocked filter or a failing drain pump. Poor cleaning results and dishes left wet at the end of a cycle indicate heating faults or problems with the spray arms not rotating properly. Leaks can develop around the front of the appliance if the door seal degrades or splits. When a dishwasher will not start at all or displays flashing error codes on the control panel, the issue might be a faulty door catch or a problem with the main control board. During a home visit near landmarks like the Innsworke Mill Boat Yard, we look at the appliance to find the exact fault. Our repair service covers draining faults, poor cleaning results, spray arm problems and heating failures. We also investigate leaks, door seal problems, error codes and machines that will not start.

Water left in the base usually means the appliance cannot drain properly. The most basic cause is a blocked filter, which stops water reaching the pump. If the filter is clear, the drain pump itself might be jammed with debris or the waste hose could be kinked behind the machine.

Poor cleaning results and wet dishes are strongly linked to heating faults. If the water does not heat up, grease will not dissolve and the final drying phase cannot take place. Alternatively, the spray arms might be blocked with food particles, preventing water from circulating around the cabinet during the wash.

Leaks from the front of the machine are generally caused by a degraded or split door seal. Over time, the rubber gasket perishes or gets damaged by cutlery, allowing water to escape. Another possibility is a blocked lower spray arm forcing water directly against the door seal during the cycle.
