Homes in Millbrook

Know the home, know the fault

The Rame Peninsula has a strong rural setting based around the local fishing industry. Properties near the tidal creek, which was dammed for flood prevention in 1977, rely on standard domestic refrigeration to keep food fresh. In rural and coastal homes, a fridge is expected to run quietly and maintain a steady temperature, but seasonal changes in ambient room heat can force the compressor to work harder to keep the interior cool and preserve groceries. When a fridge struggles to maintain its temperature, the problem might be a degraded magnetic door seal letting warm room air seep inside. This forces the appliance to run constantly, which can lead to thick ice building up on the back wall or water pooling underneath the bottom salad crispers. A fridge that feels too warm or fails to cool evenly might have a faulty thermostat or a failing compressor relay, which can cause a repetitive clicking noise. Blocked defrost drains are another issue that causes water to leak onto the floor, while internal fans can become noisy if ice accumulates around the blades. We travel across to Millbrook to repair fridges in customers' homes, looking at issues ranging from faulty interior lights to broken thermostats and worn door seals. Whether a property is near Jenkins Park or elsewhere on the peninsula, we check why an appliance is too warm, too cold, noisy or leaking water. We also repair freezers, washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, wine coolers and electric cooking appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers or any gas equipment.

Water pooling under the salad drawers points to a blocked defrost drain. Condensation runs down the back wall of the fridge and is supposed to exit through a small hole. If crumbs or food packaging block this drain, the water has nowhere to go and collects at the bottom of the appliance.

A repetitive clicking sound indicates a faulty compressor relay. The relay attempts to start the compressor to cool the interior, but if it fails, it clicks off and tries again a few minutes later. This fault prevents the fridge from cooling properly and requires a replacement part to resolve.

Ice forms when warm air enters the fridge and condenses on the cold back wall. This happens if a degraded or split door seal no longer closes tightly. A faulty thermostat can also cause the compressor to run continuously, freezing normal condensation into a solid layer of ice.
