Know the home, know the fault

Properties facing Plymouth across the River Tamar range from historic seventeenth century buildings like Burrell House to much newer housing. The nineteen nineties saw significant expansion with the Latchbrook estate, followed by the more recent Pillmere development. Older properties sometimes have compact kitchens where a slimline machine is the only practical option, while modern homes tend to have standard spaces for full size freestanding or integrated models. Regardless of the kitchen layout, a dishwasher is expected to handle the daily load of plates and pans without leaving a puddle on the floor. When a machine fails to clean properly, the issue might be blocked spray arms or a faulty wash motor struggling to circulate water. Heating faults are another issue, where a broken element or thermostat leaves dishes wet and cold at the end of a cycle. If the appliance will not drain, water is left sitting in the base, which points to a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump or an obstructed waste hose. Leaks can develop from worn door seals or damaged hoses, while error codes or a machine that will not start at all might indicate a problem with the main control board or a faulty door latch preventing the cycle from initiating. During a visit, we look at draining faults and water left in the base, poor cleaning results and spray arm problems, as well as heating faults and dishes left wet. We also investigate leaks, door seal problems, error codes and machines that will not start. If your appliance is struggling to complete a wash, we can dismantle the relevant sections to test the internal components.

Water pooling in the base usually means the appliance is failing to drain. This can happen if the filters are clogged with food debris, preventing water from flowing out. A jammed drain pump or a blockage in the waste hose connecting to your sink plumbing will also cause this issue.

If your dishes are not drying, the machine is likely experiencing a heating fault. Dishwashers use a heating element to raise the water temperature for washing and to help evaporate moisture during the drying phase. A broken element, a faulty thermostat or a damaged control board can prevent this.

Leaks from the front of the machine point to a degraded or split door seal. Over time, the rubber gasket can perish or become coated in grease, stopping it from forming a watertight barrier. A blocked lower spray arm forcing water directly at the door can also cause leaks.
