Know the home, know the fault

The community retained a strong agricultural connection for many years, keeping an active cattle market until the mid-twentieth century. Earlier in its history, the local economy and housing growth suffered significantly when mechanisation in the wool trade forced workers to move away. The settlement experienced a further decline in growth because the railway network was built around it rather than through it. Properties in rural market communities with this kind of history often feature kitchens that were added to much older floor plans. In these spaces, dishwashers might be fitted into tight corners or positioned at the end of long plumbing runs. When a machine is squeezed into an older kitchen layout, drainage issues can occur if the waste hose is kinked behind the cabinets. A dishwasher that will not drain leaves dirty water sitting in the base, which might be due to a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump or an obstructed waste connection. Poor cleaning results usually point to blocked spray arms that cannot rotate properly, or a failing circulation motor that lacks the pressure to push water through the system. If dishes emerge wet and cold at the end of a cycle, the heating element or its control relays have likely failed. Leaks can develop from degraded door seals, split internal hoses or damaged inlet valves. The A379 links the town directly to Plymouth and Kingsbridge, providing a clear route for appliance repairs. Whether a machine is showing error codes near Shilstone Manor or simply will not start in the centre, we look at the electrical supply, door catches and main control boards to find the fault. We investigate draining faults, poor cleaning, heating failures and leaks in your home. While we repair a wide range of electric kitchen equipment, we do not work on gas appliances.

Water left in the base usually means the machine cannot drain. The drain pump might be jammed by debris like broken glass or food waste, or the filters could be completely blocked. A kinked waste hose behind the appliance or a blockage where the hose joins your sink plumbing will also stop water escaping.

If your plates are cold and wet at the end of a cycle, the appliance is not heating the water. This points to a failed heating element or a fault on the main control board that stops power reaching the heater. Without hot water, the machine cannot clean effectively or evaporate moisture during the drying phase.

Flashing lights or beeping sounds are how the machine displays an error code. This happens when internal sensors detect a problem, such as a leak in the base, a failure to fill with water, or a heating fault. The specific pattern of lights tells the engineer where to start looking for the broken part.
