Know the home, know the fault
Properties in this part of Devon reflect a history shaped by agriculture and shifts in industry. The strong rural connection remained, with a cattle market operating until the mid twentieth century. In these rural and period properties, kitchen space is sometimes adapted from older layouts. Built-in and combination microwaves are fitted to save worktop space, integrating cooking functions into a single unit. When a built-in model stops working, it leaves a noticeable gap in the kitchen routine. A combination microwave that runs but fails to heat usually has a fault within the high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, which generates the cooking energy, can fail, or the high-voltage diode or capacitor might be at fault. If the turntable will not turn, the small synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor is the likely cause, though the glass tray coupling can also break. Door latches and switches are another area we look at. A microwave has multiple interlock switches to prevent operation while the door is open. If the latch mechanism wears out or a switch fails, the appliance will either refuse to start or blow a fuse immediately upon closing the door. Control panels and displays can also become unresponsive, preventing you from selecting a programme. The journey follows the A379, the main road linking the settlement to Plymouth and Kingsbridge. Whether your property is near the centre or out towards Little Modbury, we repair built-in and combination microwaves in your home. When we arrive, we look at microwaves that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, door latch and switch faults, and unresponsive controls or displays.

Call 01752 922765When a microwave sounds like it is running normally but the food remains cold, the fault is usually in the high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, which produces the cooking energy, may have failed. Alternatively, a faulty high-voltage diode or capacitor can prevent the magnetron from receiving the power it needs to operate.
A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a failed synchronous motor located under the floor of the microwave cavity. Sometimes, the plastic or ceramic coupling that connects the motor shaft to the glass tray is cracked or worn out, preventing the rotational movement from transferring to the tray.
Microwaves are fitted with several interlock switches designed to cut the power if the door is opened during use. If the door latch mechanism is worn, or if one of the microswitches falls out of alignment or fails, closing the door can create a short circuit that immediately blows the main fuse.
