Know the home, know the fault

The area then saw further decline when the railway network bypassed it entirely. However, a strong rural connection remained, with a cattle market operating until the mid-twentieth century. In older properties, kitchens can sometimes be unheated overnight or have uneven floors. A fridge needs a level surface so the doors close flush against the cabinet. If a kitchen floor slopes, the appliance might lean, preventing the magnetic door seals from gripping properly and letting warm air inside. When warm air enters a fridge, the compressor has to run constantly to maintain the set temperature. This continuous running can lead to ice building up on the back wall of the compartment. As the ice melts during the defrost cycle, the drain hole can become blocked with food debris, resulting in water pooling inside under the salad crispers or leaking onto the floor. If the appliance is clicking or making new noises, the compressor or its start relay might be struggling. A fridge that is too cold or not cooling evenly often points to a failing thermostat or a broken fan that cannot circulate the chilled air. Modbury is situated on the A379 road linking it to Plymouth and Kingsbridge. When visiting homes near Shilstone or the surrounding rural areas, we look at fridges that are warm, noisy, or leaking. We check for faulty lights, test thermostats, and inspect door seals to find out why an appliance is running constantly or failing to cool evenly. Our domestic appliance repair service covers electric cooking equipment, washing machines, and refrigeration units, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Water pooling under the salad crispers usually means the defrost drain is blocked. When the fridge goes through a defrost cycle, the melted ice is supposed to run down a small hole at the back. If crumbs or food packaging block this hole, the water overflows into the main compartment.

A fridge compressor runs to bring the internal temperature down. If warm air is leaking in through a torn or degraded door seal, the compressor has to work continuously to compensate. A failing thermostat can also cause this issue by failing to signal that the correct temperature has been reached.

Ice builds up when moisture enters the cabinet and freezes against the cold rear wall. This happens if the door is left ajar or the magnetic seal is damaged. It can also occur if the internal fan is broken, preventing cold air from circulating properly throughout the fridge compartment.
