Know the home, know the fault

Later, the railway network bypassed the settlement entirely, contributing further to this decline. However, a strong rural connection remained, with an active cattle market running until 1944. In rural and agricultural communities, laundry loads can be heavy, making a working tumble dryer highly useful for keeping up with washing. When a dryer stops working, the issue is usually found in a few key components. Machines that run but fail to heat might have a blown thermal overload cut-out or a faulty heater element. If the drum will not turn at all, the drive belt has likely snapped or slipped off the motor pulley. Condenser models rely on a water container to collect moisture, and if the pump that moves this water fails, the machine will stop mid-cycle or refuse to start. Noisy running points to worn support rollers, failing motor bearings, or a damaged tensioner pulley. The journey follows the A379, the main road linking the settlement to Plymouth and Kingsbridge. During a visit, we look at dryers that will not heat, turn, or finish a cycle. We investigate drums that will not rotate, machines that stop mid-cycle, and condenser or water container faults. We repair appliances directly in your home. We also work on washing machines, dishwashers, and electric ovens, though we do not work on gas appliances.

A dryer that turns but stays cold usually has a problem with its heating element or the thermal cut-out thermostats. If the machine overheats due to blocked airflow from a clogged lint filter, the safety thermostat trips to cut the power to the heater. We can test these components and replace them if they have failed.

Condenser dryers collect moisture in a tank, and a small pump moves the water from the base to the container. If the pump fails, the float switch activates and tells the control board that the base is full. The machine will then halt the cycle to prevent water spilling onto your floor.

Loud rumbling or squeaking noises point to mechanical wear inside the cabinet. The drum sits on support rollers or bearing pads, which degrade over time. A worn tensioner pulley or a failing motor bearing will also create excessive noise. Identifying the exact sound helps determine which moving part requires replacement.
