Know the home, know the fault

Since the eighteenth century, when the first holiday home was built, the area has included properties rented out to holidaymakers alongside those used exclusively by their owners. In a holiday let, an integrated or American-style fridge freezer might sit unused for periods before dealing with a sudden influx of fresh groceries, which forces the compressor to work hard to bring the internal temperature down. When a fridge freezer develops a fault, it is usually a failure in the cooling or defrost circuits. A fridge that feels warm while the freezer section still works properly is a typical issue. This happens when the fan motor fails to circulate cold air from the freezer compartment up into the fridge, or when a faulty defrost heater allows ice to block the air channels. Frost and ice build-up inside the cabinet can also point to a broken thermostat or a damaged door seal letting humid air inside. Water leaks inside the appliance or onto the floor are sometimes caused by a blocked defrost drain tube, forcing condensation to pool at the bottom of the fridge. We travel out to homes across the area, including properties near Batson, to repair domestic appliances. When examining a faulty fridge freezer, we look at noisy running, faulty controls, and cooling problems across both freestanding and built-in models. Whether the appliance has stopped working entirely or just one side is failing to hold its temperature, we trace the electrical or mechanical fault to the specific component to resolve the issue.

Water inside the fridge is usually caused by a blocked defrost drain tube. During the automatic defrost cycle, condensation is supposed to flow down a small hole at the back of the cabinet into a drip tray above the compressor. If crumbs or food packaging block this hole, the water overflows and pools under the salad crisper drawers.

A loud buzzing or vibrating noise often points to a failing fan motor or an issue with the compressor. If the noise stops when you open the appliance door, the evaporator fan blade might be hitting a build-up of ice. A constant rattle from the back of the unit can also indicate that the compressor mountings have worn loose over time.

This happens when cold air cannot circulate from the freezer into the fridge. The evaporator fan motor might have failed, or a broken defrost heater could be allowing ice to block the air vents between the two compartments. A faulty damper baffle, which controls the airflow into the fridge, will also prevent the upper section from reaching the correct temperature.
