Know the home, know the fault
In a holiday property, a built-in or combination microwave sees varied use from different guests, who might not be familiar with the specific controls or settings. This varied handling can lead to wear on door catches and user interfaces. When a combination microwave runs but fails to heat the food, the issue usually lies within the high-voltage components, such as the magnetron, capacitor or diode. Another fault involves the turntable refusing to rotate, which results in uneven cooking. This is typically caused by a failed synchronous motor located under the cavity floor, or occasionally a broken drive coupling. Door latches and microswitches are also critical; if the interlock switches do not register that the door is securely closed, the appliance will not start. Control panels and digital displays can develop faults where buttons become unresponsive or the screen goes blank, making it impossible to select a cooking programme. During a visit to Salcombe, we examine built-in and combination models directly in your kitchen. We look at microwaves that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, door latch and switch faults, as well as unresponsive controls and displays. We carry out all diagnostic work and repairs on electric cooking appliances in your home, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765A turntable that will not turn is usually caused by a faulty synchronous motor situated beneath the floor of the microwave cavity. Sometimes, the plastic drive coupling that connects the motor to the glass tray is cracked or worn. We can inspect these components during a visit to determine why the rotation has failed.
When a microwave sounds like it is running but the food remains cold, the fault is generally within the high-voltage circuit. This could be a failed magnetron, a blown high-voltage diode, or a faulty capacitor. These are internal components that require testing with specialised equipment to locate the fault.
This happens when the appliance does not detect that the door is fully closed. Microwaves have multiple safety interlock switches connected to the door latch mechanism. If a latch hook is broken or a microswitch fails to engage, the control board will prevent the microwave from starting any heating cycle.
