Know the home, know the fault
The centre of Kingsbridge retains many buildings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, while the wider area accommodates a population of about 5,681 people. Because the settlement sits at the northern end of an estuary extending six miles south to the sea, and lies within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it is a popular tourist destination. This means domestic kitchens here range from those in older properties to holiday lets and family homes serving the pupils of the large local secondary school. Older properties sometimes have uneven floors, making it difficult to level a tall fridge freezer, which affects how well the doors seal. When appliances in holiday accommodation are switched off between visits, the internal temperatures fluctuate and the cooling cycle is disrupted. When a fridge freezer stops working properly, the issue is usually found in the sealed system, the defrost circuit, or the air circulation. A known fault is the fridge section becoming warm while the freezer continues to freeze. This happens when ice builds up over the evaporator coils, blocking the fan from blowing cold air up into the fresh food compartment. Frost accumulation points to a failed defrost heater, a faulty bimetal thermostat, or a torn door gasket letting in humid room air. Water leaks inside the cabin or onto the floor indicate a blocked defrost drain, where condensation overflows rather than running down to the evaporation tray above the compressor. During a visit, we look at faulty thermostats, noisy running from failing compressor mounts or fan motors, and control board issues. Please note that our cooking appliance repairs are electric and induction only, as we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765Water on the floor indicates the defrost drain is blocked. During the automatic defrost cycle, melted ice travels down a tube to a tray above the compressor, where heat evaporates it. If food debris or ice blocks this tube, the water overflows inside the cabinet and eventually leaks out onto the floor.
Most modern fridge freezers use a single compressor to cool the freezer, and a fan then blows some of that cold air up into the fridge. If the defrost heater fails, ice builds up over the evaporator coils and blocks the air vents. The freezer stays cold, but the fridge section loses its cold air supply.
A loud buzz or rattle comes from the compressor or the condenser fan motor at the back of the appliance. Worn rubber mounting grommets cause the compressor to vibrate against the chassis. In integrated models, the appliance might also vibrate against the wooden cabinet housing if it has shifted slightly out of level.
