Know the home, know the fault

The wider parish sits in a rural setting in the valley of the River Avon, containing many dispersed farmhouses. In older properties with uneven floors, getting a tall fridge freezer perfectly level is important for the heavy doors to seal correctly. Modern kitchens might instead feature integrated units hidden behind cabinet doors, or large American-style models requiring ample space for proper compressor ventilation. When a fridge freezer stops working properly, it is usually a failure in the cooling cycle or the automatic defrost system. A warm fridge compartment while the freezer remains completely frozen suggests that cold air is no longer circulating between the two sections. This happens if the internal fan motor fails or if the mechanical damper flap gets stuck closed. Frost and thick ice build-up inside the cabinet points to a broken defrost heater, a blown thermal fuse or a faulty thermostat. Water leaks pooling inside the drawers or running onto the floor are typically caused by a blocked defrost drain tube, which forces normal condensation to overflow. Noisy running might indicate a failing compressor or a worn fan bearing, while faulty electronic controls can stop the appliance from regulating its temperature entirely. Whether a repair is needed in the village itself or out towards Harbourneford, we examine the appliance directly in your kitchen. Our visit involves checking the compressor function, testing the defrost components and inspecting the door seals for gaps. We repair freestanding, integrated and American-style models, addressing cooling imbalances, persistent leaks and electrical faults. We also cover nearby towns like Ivybridge, Buckfastleigh and Totnes.

This happens when cold air cannot circulate from the freezer into the fridge. The internal fan motor might have failed, or the damper flap that controls airflow could be stuck. A heavy build-up of ice over the evaporator coils can also block the vents, which usually points to a fault in the automatic defrost system.

Water pooling inside the fridge is usually caused by a blocked defrost drain hole. During the normal cooling cycle, condensation runs down the back wall and into a small channel. If food debris or mould blocks the drain hole, the water overflows into the base of the fridge and eventually leaks onto the floor.

A loud buzzing or vibrating noise can indicate a failing compressor or a worn bearing in the condenser fan. In integrated models, the noise might be amplified by the surrounding wooden cabinet. If the noise happens only when the doors are closed, an internal circulation fan might be hitting a build-up of ice.
