Know the home, know the fault
There are also new homes and shops being created in the former paper mill buildings. In older terraces, space might dictate a slimline fridge freezer, while the suburban houses built during the rapid expansion of the late twentieth century alongside the Devon Expressway might accommodate larger American-style or integrated models. A fridge freezer needs adequate ventilation around its condenser coils to release heat, regardless of whether it sits in a modern kitchen or a period property. When a fridge freezer fails, the symptoms vary depending on the internal components. A unit might have a warm fridge compartment while the freezer still works, which points to a failure in the defrost system or a blocked air damper preventing cold air circulation. Frost and ice build-up inside the cabinet indicates an issue with a defrost heater, thermostat, or a damaged door seal letting in humid air. Water leaks inside the appliance or onto the floor usually originate from a blocked defrost drain tube. Noisy running can stem from a worn evaporator fan motor or a failing compressor. Faulty controls might cause the appliance to run continuously or stop cooling entirely. We travel out towards the southern extremity of Dartmoor to reach homes in the town and nearby places like Ugborough. Once at the property, we look at the appliance in situ. We examine American-style and integrated models to see why a fridge is warm while the freezer still works, or the reverse. We also investigate frost and ice build-up, trace water leaks inside or onto the floor, and diagnose noisy running and faulty controls. We do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765This happens when cold air from the freezer cannot reach the fridge compartment. It points to a failure in the automatic defrost system, such as a broken defrost heater or thermostat, causing ice to block the air passages. A failed evaporator fan or a stuck damper door will also prevent cold air circulation.
Water pooling under the appliance usually comes from a blocked defrost drain. During the defrost cycle, melted frost is supposed to flow down a tube into a pan above the compressor, where it evaporates. If this tube clogs with debris or ice, the water overflows inside the cabinet and eventually leaks out onto the floor.
Ice accumulation indicates that warm, humid air is entering the cabinet or the appliance is failing to defrost itself. A torn or loose door seal allows room air inside, which condenses and freezes. Alternatively, a faulty defrost timer, heater, or sensor will stop the appliance from melting away the normal frost that forms on the evaporator coils.
