Know the home, know the fault
The settlement began as a woollen and market centre, and some dwellings are very old, with sections of the manor house dating to the fifteenth century. In older, uneven buildings with original floors, a freestanding fridge must be levelled correctly using its adjustable feet. If a cabinet leans slightly forward or to one side, the heavy door might not close flush against the frame, leaving a tiny gap where warm room air enters the chilled compartment. When warm air slips past a faulty or poorly aligned door seal, the appliance works harder to maintain its set temperature. This constant running can lead to thick ice building up on the back wall of the fridge, which stops it from cooling evenly. A thermostat struggling to read the internal climate might cause the compressor to click on and off, creating new noises in the kitchen. If the small drain hole at the back of the cabinet becomes blocked with food particles, condensation cannot escape. This results in water pooling inside under the salad crispers or leaking out onto the floor. We visit homes throughout the surrounding hamlets like Brent Mill. When inspecting a fridge in your home, we look at why it is too warm, too cold, noisy or leaking. We check for faulty lights, test thermostats and examine door seals to see if they need replacing.

Call 01752 922765This usually happens when the condensation drain hole at the back of the fridge gets blocked. Food crumbs or packaging can cover the hole, stopping water from draining away to the evaporation tray above the compressor. The water then runs down and pools under the salad drawers or leaks onto the floor.
Ice builds up when warm air enters the fridge, usually through a torn or loose door seal. The appliance runs constantly to cool this warm air down, freezing the condensation on the back wall. A faulty thermostat that keeps the compressor running too long will also cause the back wall to freeze over.
A clicking sound often comes from the starter relay trying and failing to turn the compressor on. If the compressor cannot start, the fridge will not circulate refrigerant and the internal temperature will rise. The clicking might also point to a faulty thermostat that is sending erratic signals to the cooling system.
