Know the home, know the fault

The settlement expanded significantly during a nineteenth-century mining and industrial boom, leaving older properties alongside newer additions. In homes with smaller utility spaces, a tumble dryer is a practical way to manage laundry. Whether tucked under a counter or stacked in a dedicated room, these machines rely on good airflow. Restricted ventilation can cause condensation issues if a dryer is not positioned correctly. A dryer that runs but produces no heat points to a failed heating element or a tripped thermal overload switch, which cuts power if the internal temperature gets too high. When a drum refuses to turn, the drive belt has usually snapped or stretched, though a worn motor capacitor can also prevent the motor from starting. Machines that stop mid-cycle or fail to start entirely might be suffering from a faulty door catch, a broken timer, or a malfunctioning control board. Condenser models rely on a heat exchanger to extract moisture. If lint blocks this component or the water container pump fails, the appliance will struggle to dry clothes. Noisy running is another issue, typically caused by worn drum bearings or support rollers grinding as the drum rotates. We repair appliances in customers' homes, travelling out towards places like Kit Hill to inspect machines that are not working as they should. During a visit, we look at dryers that will not heat, turn or finish a cycle. We also investigate condenser and water container faults, as well as noisy running. We repair electric cooking appliances, but we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

A lack of heat usually means the heating element has failed or a thermal overload thermostat has tripped. Thermostats are designed to cut the power if the machine overheats, which can happen if the lint filters are blocked. A faulty control board might also stop the heater from engaging.

A drum that will not turn is usually caused by a snapped or stretched drive belt. If the belt is intact, the motor capacitor might have failed, leaving the motor unable to start. Worn drum bearings or seized support rollers can also physically prevent the drum from rotating.

Water leaks on condenser models happen when the internal pump fails to send extracted moisture up to the collection container. A blockage in the hoses, a cracked water tank, or a build-up of lint around the heat exchanger can also cause water to overflow and pool underneath the machine.
