Know the home, know the fault
Properties in the largest settlement within the local national park range from older buildings reflecting its past as a tin mining administration centre to family homes near the large secondary school. A fridge freezer in a busy household, perhaps with students or those inspired by the culinary academy in the north of the settlement, works continuously to preserve food. Whether the kitchen is in a property dating back to when this was just a farming settlement built around a stream, or a modern extension, the appliance relies on good airflow around its condenser coils to release heat efficiently. When a fridge freezer develops a fault, the symptoms usually point to specific components. A warm fridge compartment while the freezer remains cold is a known issue, sometimes caused by a failed evaporator fan failing to circulate chilled air upwards, or a blocked defrost drain. Frost and solid ice build-up inside the freezer section can indicate a faulty defrost heater or a damaged door seal letting humid room air in. Water leaking inside the cabinet or pooling onto the floor might stem from that same blocked drain or a cracked drip tray. Noisy running relates to a worn compressor or a failing fan motor, while faulty controls can stop the appliance from regulating temperature entirely. We travel along the major road adjacent to the town to repair appliances in customers' homes, and we also visit nearby places like Buckfastleigh. During a visit, we look at the specific issues affecting your appliance, from temperature imbalances and leaks to unusual noises. Please note that while we fix electric cooking appliances, we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765This happens when cold air from the freezer cannot reach the fridge section. The evaporator fan might have failed, or ice could be blocking the air damper between the two compartments. A faulty defrost system can also cause ice to build up over the cooling coils, restricting airflow and leaving the upper section too warm.
A frost-free appliance uses a heater to melt ice off the cooling coils automatically. If the defrost heater, the defrost timer, or the termination thermostat fails, ice will accumulate rapidly. Alternatively, a torn or loose door seal allows warm room air to enter the cabinet, which then condenses and freezes against the cold interior walls.
Water inside the fridge usually points to a blocked defrost drain. During the normal cooling cycle, condensation forms on the back wall and drips down into a small gutter. A blocked drain hole causes the water to overflow and pool under the salad crisper drawers, eventually leaking out onto the floor.
