Know the home, know the fault
Out on the edges of town, thousands of new houses are part of recent and planned developments in areas like Wolborough Barton. Older terraced houses sometimes have compact kitchens, relying on slimline freestanding fridge freezers to make the most of limited floor space. Modern extensions and new builds are built with larger utility areas, making them suited to wide American-style models or tall integrated units hidden behind cabinet doors. Wherever the appliance sits, it needs adequate airflow around the condenser coils to dissipate heat. When a fridge freezer stops working properly, the issue might be isolated to just one compartment. A warm fridge section paired with a freezing lower compartment points to a failure in the defrost system or a blocked air damper. Frost and ice build-up on the back wall of the fridge suggests a faulty thermostat or a damaged door seal letting warm room air inside. Water pooling under the salad crisper drawers or leaking onto the floor happens when the defrost drain hole gets blocked with food debris. Noisy running sounds like loud buzzing or clicking point to a struggling compressor or a failing evaporator fan motor. Whether a call takes us to a Victorian terrace or a newer property near Milber, we look at exactly why the appliance is failing. We check for faulty controls, investigate water leaks inside the cabinet, and trace the source of heavy frost build-up. Our repair service covers freestanding and integrated fridge freezers, as well as American-style models. Please note that we only repair electric appliances and do not work on gas cookers or any gas equipment.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling under the salad crisper drawers is a direct result of a blocked defrost drain. When condensation forms on the back wall, it drips down into a small channel. If food crumbs or packaging block the drain hole, the water overflows into the base of the fridge and eventually leaks out onto the floor.
A warm fridge paired with a freezing lower compartment points to an airflow issue between the two sections. Cold air is generated in the freezer and pushed up into the fridge by an evaporator fan. If the fan motor fails, the defrost heater breaks, or ice blocks the air damper, the fridge section will lose its cooling.
Thick frost and ice build-up happens when warm room air enters the freezer compartment and freezes on the cold surfaces. A torn or loose door seal is the primary cause, as it stops the door from closing tightly. A faulty defrost timer or a broken defrost heater will also allow ice to accumulate over the evaporator coils.
