Know the home, know the fault

The origins of this area lie in an old farming settlement built around a stream, and it remains the largest town within the local national park. There is even a culinary academy in the northern part of the settlement. In these kitchens, electric and induction hobs are relied upon for daily cooking. We repair these appliances in the home, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance. When an electric or induction hob stops working, the symptoms vary depending on the heating technology. On ceramic models, the radiant rings might fail to heat up if the heating element breaks or the energy regulator develops a fault. Induction hobs use electromagnets to heat the pan directly, and these can suffer from failed inverter boards or cooling fan issues, which usually result in error codes or the appliance switching off unexpectedly. Across both types, touch controls that do not respond are a known issue, sometimes caused by moisture getting under the glass or a faulty user interface board. Another issue is a hob that trips the electrics, which points to a short circuit in the wiring or a blown component. When we arrive at your property, we look at zones or rings that will not heat, unresponsive touch controls, error codes, and hobs that trip the electrics. We also travel to nearby places like Buckfastleigh to fix domestic appliances in customer homes.

Induction hobs have internal sensors that monitor temperatures to prevent overheating. If the cooling fan fails or the ventilation under the appliance is blocked, the internal boards get too hot and the hob switches off to protect itself. This can also happen if a pan boils dry or if there is a fault on the main inverter board.

Unresponsive touch controls happen when the user interface board beneath the glass develops a fault. Moisture from boiling pans or spills can sometimes seep under the edge of the glass and damage the sensitive electronics. In other cases, a software glitch requires the appliance to be reset at the mains, or the control board itself needs replacing.

Ceramic hobs use radiant heating elements under the glass. When a single zone fails to heat, the element itself has usually broken or burned out. Alternatively, the energy regulator that controls the power to that specific ring might be faulty. We can test the wiring and components to find out exactly where the circuit has failed.
