Know the home, know the fault
Founded in the twelfth century by Norman lords who built the nearby Restormel Castle, Lostwithiel is positioned between the A390 road from Tavistock to Truro and the upper tidal reaches of the river. In any property, a fridge needs adequate ventilation around its exterior to dissipate the heat it extracts from the cabinet. If a kitchen layout restricts airflow around the condenser coils, the compressor has to run longer to maintain the set temperature. When a fridge runs constantly, it might be compensating for a degraded door seal letting warm room air inside. This extra workload can lead to ice building up on the back wall or water pooling underneath the salad crispers when the defrost cycle cannot cope. Sometimes, a new clicking noise indicates a compressor struggling to start, while a fridge that is too warm or not cooling evenly points to a failing thermostat or a blocked internal fan. A unit that is too cold might have a faulty temperature sensor, freezing fresh produce instead of just chilling it. Faulty lights can also occur if the door switch fails to register when the cabinet is open. When visiting a property in places like Penknight, we look at why a fridge is leaking, noisy or failing to hold the correct temperature. We check the condition of door seals, test thermostats and inspect the defrost drain for blockages that cause water to pool on the floor. Our domestic appliance repair service covers electric models, and we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling under the salad crispers usually means the defrost drain is blocked. During the normal defrost cycle, condensation drips down the back wall and exits through a small hole. If food particles or packaging block this drain, the water has nowhere to go and spills into the base of the cabinet.
A fridge that runs without pausing and freezes fresh produce is likely suffering from a faulty thermostat or temperature sensor. The appliance fails to recognise that the target temperature has been reached, so the compressor continues to run. A degraded door seal letting warm air in can also cause continuous running.
Ice building up on the rear interior wall happens when the automatic defrost system fails or the door is left slightly open. Warm air enters the cabinet, creating excess condensation that freezes on the cold evaporator plate. A torn door seal or a faulty defrost heater will allow this ice to accumulate.
