Know the home, know the fault
The community sits in a river valley between the Tavistock to Truro road and the upper tidal reaches of the water. A large electric range cooker is a heavy appliance that needs a dedicated, high-rated electrical circuit. In flats or older properties, finding space for a wide multi-cavity cooker can dictate the entire kitchen layout, especially when factoring in the required ventilation and clearance around the induction or ceramic hob zones. When an electric range cooker develops a fault, it might affect just one section while the rest continues to work. A main oven that stops heating while the secondary oven still functions usually points to a failed circular fan element. If the appliance trips the household electrics, the issue could be a degraded grill element or a fault in the internal wiring shorting to earth. Control problems can manifest as unresponsive dials, faulty thermostats causing the oven to overheat, or cooling fans that run continuously. We look at these specific components, as well as checking the selector switches that route power to the different cooking zones. Whether a repair is needed near the Shirehall Moor nature reserve or out towards Lanlivery, we carry out the work directly in your kitchen. Our visits cover electric and induction cooking appliances only, as we do not work on gas cookers or gas hobs. We dismantle the necessary panels to test the thermostats, elements and wiring. We also cover nearby towns like Fowey and Bodmin.

Call 01752 922765An electric range cooker will trip the circuit breaker if a component shorts to earth. This happens when the internal insulation inside a heating element breaks down, allowing moisture to penetrate. We test the main oven element, the grill and the hob zones to isolate the exact part causing the electrical fault.
If the fan is spinning but the cavity remains cold, the circular heating element surrounding the fan has likely failed. The secondary oven and hob will usually continue working normally because they use separate elements. We dismantle the rear panel inside the cavity to inspect and replace the faulty element.
Electric range cookers use cooling fans to protect the control board and dials from heat damage. A thermal switch controls this fan, keeping it running until the appliance cools down. If the fan never stops, that switch or the main thermostat has failed in the closed position and requires replacement.
