Know the home, know the fault
Properties around this large natural harbour range from primary residences to holiday lets and second homes. With tourism providing more than half the local jobs, a working fridge is essential for both permanent residents and the many visitors staying near the estuary. In a port settlement that predates the Norman invasion, older properties can feature compact or awkwardly shaped kitchens. This means ventilation around a freestanding or integrated cooling appliance is sometimes restricted. Poor airflow forces the compressor to work harder to reject heat, which can lead to cooling issues over time. When a fridge struggles to maintain a safe temperature, the cause might be a failing thermostat or a degraded door seal letting warm air inside. This ingress of ambient air causes condensation, which can result in water pooling on the bottom shelf or leaking onto the floor. If ice builds up heavily on the back wall, the defrost heater or timer may have failed, preventing the system from clearing frost automatically. You might also notice the appliance running constantly or making new clicking noises. This usually points to a compressor trying to start but failing due to a faulty start relay or capacitor. We travel out to surrounding areas like Tywardreath. Once at your property, we look at fridges that are warm or not cooling evenly, check for water pooling inside or on the floor, and investigate ice building up on the back wall. We also trace the source of constant running, clicking or new noises, and replace faulty lights, thermostats and door seals. Our repair service covers domestic electric cooking and cooling appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling inside the fridge usually happens when the condensation drain hole becomes blocked with food debris or packaging. The water has nowhere to go and overflows onto the bottom shelf or under the salad crispers. Clearing the drain channel at the back of the cabinet usually resolves the issue.
A clicking sound from the back of the appliance indicates the compressor is trying to start but failing. This is typically caused by a faulty start relay or a degraded run capacitor. If the compressor itself has failed mechanically, it will also click as the overload protector trips to prevent electrical damage.
Ice builds up when warm air enters the cabinet, usually through a torn or flattened door seal. The moisture in the air condenses and freezes on the cold back wall. A faulty thermostat can also cause the compressor to run constantly, lowering the temperature until a thick layer of frost forms.
