Know the home, know the fault
In older properties, kitchens might have uneven floors or limited ventilation space, which can affect how a fridge dissipates heat. A fridge needs adequate airflow around its condenser coils to function efficiently, regardless of whether it sits in a period home or a newer build. When a fridge struggles to maintain the correct temperature, the issue might stem from a faulty thermostat or a degraded door seal letting warm air inside. This ingress of room air causes condensation, leading to water pooling on the shelves or ice building up heavily on the back wall. If the appliance starts making new noises, such as a continuous clicking or a compressor that runs constantly without pausing, it indicates the cooling system is working harder than it should. Blocked defrost drains can also result in water leaking onto the floor beneath the salad crisper drawers. We travel out to homes near Luxstowe and the surrounding neighbourhoods to repair domestic appliances. During a fridge repair, we look at models that are too warm, too cold, noisy or leaking. We inspect the appliance for faulty lights, check the condition of the door seals, and test the thermostats to find out why it is not cooling evenly or why water is pooling inside or on the floor.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling inside a fridge usually happens when the defrost drain becomes blocked with food debris or packaging. The condensation that normally runs down the back wall has nowhere to go, so it collects under the salad drawers. Clearing the drain hole allows the water to escape normally.
A fridge compressor runs constantly when it struggles to reach the set temperature. This happens if the door seals are split, letting warm air enter the cabinet, or if the thermostat is faulty and fails to signal that the appliance is cold enough. Heavy ice build-up also reduces cooling efficiency.
Ice builds up on the back wall when warm air enters the fridge and condenses. A damaged door seal is a likely cause, as it prevents the door from closing properly. A faulty thermostat can also force the cooling system to run too long, freezing the condensation before it drains away.
