Know the home, know the fault
Properties in this river valley settlement range from historic buildings, with origins stretching back to the Norman lords who established the community during the twelfth century, to modern residential apartments created within former railway workshops. When kitchens are fitted into converted spaces or older homes beside the tidal waters, built-in appliances are a practical choice for saving worktop space. A combination microwave integrated into a tall cabinet provides baking and roasting functions alongside standard heating, which is useful when kitchen dimensions are restricted by original architecture or thick stone walls. A built-in microwave that runs but fails to heat food usually has a fault within the high-voltage circuit, such as a failed magnetron, a faulty capacitor or a blown internal fuse. If the glass tray refuses to rotate during a cooking cycle, the issue is typically a worn synchronous motor located underneath the cavity floor, or a broken plastic drive coupler. Door latches contain multiple microswitches designed to cut power instantly when the door is opened. If these switches fall out of alignment or fail mechanically, the appliance will remain completely dead even when plugged in and switched on at the wall. Faulty control boards can also cause digital display panels to become completely unresponsive or show specific error codes. During a visit, we look at built-in and combination microwaves that will not heat or turn, testing the internal components directly in your home. Our fault-finding covers door latch and switch faults, unresponsive controls and blank displays. While we repair electric cooking equipment, we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765When a microwave sounds like it is running normally but the food remains cold, the fault is usually within the high-voltage components. The magnetron, which generates the microwave energy, may have failed. Alternatively, a blown high-voltage fuse or a faulty capacitor will prevent the heating circuit from operating.
A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a failed synchronous motor located beneath the floor of the microwave cavity. Sometimes, the plastic drive coupler that connects the motor to the glass tray becomes cracked or stripped. Food spills can also jam the roller ring mechanism.
A completely dead microwave can be caused by a blown main fuse inside the appliance, often triggered by a faulty door microswitch. The door latches contain safety switches that must align correctly; if they fail, the microwave cuts all power. A failed main control board will also cause a blank display.
