Know the home, know the fault
Properties in this part of Devon vary from older buildings, dating back to when the settlement expanded on the medieval wool trade, through to twenty-first century housing developments on the eastern edge. With new homes being built in the area and a substantial British Army training camp accessed via the town, local kitchens come in many different layouts. Built-in and combination microwaves are integrated directly into cabinetry to save worktop space. When these units stop working, they need to be repaired in place rather than taken to a shop, as removing them from a fitted kitchen can be difficult. A microwave might appear to be running normally, with the interior light on and the timer counting down, but fail to heat the food. This points to a failure in the high-voltage components, such as the magnetron or capacitor. Another issue is a turntable that will not rotate, which leads to uneven heating and is usually caused by a faulty synchronous motor located under the floor of the cavity. Door latches and microswitches also wear out over time. If the door switches fail to register that the door is closed, the control board will prevent the appliance from starting. Combination models add heating elements and convection fans, which can also fail and stop the appliance from baking or grilling. We travel out to surrounding places like South Zeal to look at built-in and combination models in your home. During a visit, we check microwaves that run but do not heat, turntables that will not turn, door latch and switch faults, as well as unresponsive controls and blank displays. Our engineers test the door interlocks and internal components to find the fault. We carry out the repair work directly in your kitchen.

Call 01752 922765When a microwave runs but fails to heat, the issue is usually within the high-voltage circuit. The magnetron, which generates the microwave energy, might have failed. Alternatively, the high-voltage capacitor or diode could be faulty. We test these internal components to find out why the appliance is not producing heat.
A turntable that will not turn is typically caused by a broken synchronous motor situated under the floor of the microwave cavity. Sometimes, the glass tray coupling or the roller ring beneath it is damaged. We inspect the motor and the drive mechanism to restore the rotation and allow even heating.
The door relies on a latch mechanism and a series of microswitches to operate. If the latch is broken or a switch fails to register that the door is shut, the control board stops the microwave from starting. We check door latch and switch faults to get the unit working again.
