Properties in this coastal part of Devon range from small terraced cottages built during or before the nineteenth century near the harbour, to mid-century houses further inland. In older terraces, space is at a premium, meaning a tumble dryer might be pushed tightly under a counter. This restricts airflow around the machine. Without adequate ventilation, a dryer struggles to expel warm air, forcing internal components to work harder. Mid-century homes built between the nineteen thirties and nineteen seventies tend to have slightly larger layouts, but any dryer still requires a clear path for air intake to function correctly. When airflow is restricted, the heating element can overheat and trip the thermal overload thermostat, leaving you with a machine that runs but does not heat. Another issue is a drum that will not turn. This usually points to a snapped drive belt or a worn motor capacitor. If the appliance stops mid-cycle or will not start at all, the door switch or the main control board might be failing. Condenser models rely on a heat exchanger to turn moisture back into water. If fluff blocks the condenser unit or the pump fails, the dryer will halt. Noisy running is typically caused by degraded drum support rollers, worn bearings, or a failing tension pulley. We repair appliances in customers' homes across the area, including properties in Higher Brixham. During a visit, we look at dryers that run but do not heat, drums that will not turn, and machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start. We also investigate condenser and water container faults, alongside noisy running. We do not repair gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765A dryer that turns but produces no heat usually has a tripped thermal overload thermostat or a faulty heating element. This happens when restricted airflow causes the internal temperature to rise too high. It can also be caused by a thick build-up of lint inside the machine blocking the vents.
If you can hear the motor running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has likely snapped and needs replacing. If there is only a humming noise, the motor capacitor might have failed, meaning the motor cannot generate the initial power required to start rotating the heavy drum.
Condenser dryers collect extracted moisture in a water container. If the container is full, a sensor will halt the cycle to prevent water spilling out. If the container is empty but the machine still stops, the pump that moves the water or the microswitch detecting the water level might be faulty.
