Know the home, know the fault
Properties in Brixham range from small terraced cottages built during or before the nineteenth century along the narrow streets near the harbour, to mid-twentieth-century housing further inland. In older, compact cottages where utility space is at a premium, a combined washer dryer is a practical choice to save floor space. Newer builds and mid-century homes might have larger kitchens, but having one machine to handle both washing and drying remains convenient for many households. When a combined machine develops a fault, it can lose either its washing or drying function, or stop working entirely. Drying issues usually involve clothes remaining damp at the end of a cycle, a complete lack of heat, or programmes that run continuously without finishing. These problems are sometimes caused by a blocked condenser chamber or a failed heater element. Washing faults include the drum failing to spin, water not draining away, or the machine refusing to fill. Leaks can occur from a degraded door seal, which takes extra wear from the heat of the drying cycle, while control board faults might display error codes and halt the appliance mid-cycle. Whether a repair is needed in a historic cottage near Fishtown or a modern property further back from the coast, we investigate the appliance in your home. We look at everything from blocked pumps and worn motor brushes to faulty thermostats and damaged door seals. Please note that while we repair electric cooking appliances, we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765A machine that washes normally but produces no heat during the drying cycle usually has a fault in the drying heater circuit. The heater element might have failed, or a safety thermostat could have tripped. A blocked condenser chamber can also restrict airflow, leaving your laundry damp when the programme finishes.
Leaks from the front of the appliance are usually caused by a damaged door seal. The rubber gasket on a washer dryer is exposed to high temperatures during the drying phase, which can cause it to degrade or split over time. Trapped clothing or sharp objects can also tear the seal.
When a cycle halts and leaves water inside the drum, the machine is failing to drain. This happens if the drain pump is blocked by debris like coins or hair grips, or if the pump motor has failed. A blockage in the waste hose or the household plumbing will also prevent draining.
