Homes in Tavistock

Know the home, know the fault

Domestic properties in this part of Devon range from mid-nineteenth century homes built for miners to houses featuring the distinct local Bedford style of architecture. The settlement of Tavistock is situated by the River Tavy near the high ground of Dartmoor. It serves as a fast-growing residential base for people commuting to Plymouth, alongside a sizeable retired population, and acts as a hub for visitors exploring West Devon. In busy commuter households or holiday lets, a tumble dryer is relied upon to manage laundry loads. Older cottages have limited utility space, meaning dryers are sometimes installed in tight kitchen corners. A dryer that runs but does not heat is an issue affecting both vented and condenser models. This happens when the heating element fails or a thermal thermostat cuts the circuit. If the drum will not turn, the drive belt has snapped or stretched, leaving the motor spinning without moving the heavy wet load. Machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start at all might have a faulty door catch or a damaged control board. Condenser and water container faults occur when lint blocks the moisture extraction path. Noisy running points to worn support rollers or tensioner pulleys. All Appliance Care provides domestic appliance repairs in customers' homes across the area. When inspecting a faulty tumble dryer, we look at the heating system, drive mechanisms, and moisture extraction components. We also repair washing machines, washer dryers, dishwashers, fridges, freezers, fridge freezers, wine coolers, electric ovens, electric cookers, electric range cookers, electric and induction hobs, cooker hoods, and microwaves. We only work on electric and induction cooking appliances and do not repair gas cookers or any gas appliance.

A tumble dryer that turns without heating indicates a blown thermal overload or a failed heating element. The thermal overload cuts the power to the heater if the internal temperature gets too high, which happens when lint blocks the airflow. We inspect the heating circuit and clear any blockages.

When the motor can be heard running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has snapped or slipped off the tensioner pulley. The belt wraps around the entire drum and wears down over time due to the weight of wet laundry. Replacing the belt requires dismantling the cabinet to access the motor shaft.

Condenser dryers rely on a clear path to extract moisture from the drum and move it to the water container. If the condenser unit at the base of the machine is blocked with wet lint, the air cannot circulate properly. A faulty drain pump will also prevent water from reaching the collection tank.
