Homes in Kingsteignton

Know the home, know the fault

The town of Kingsteignton has a varied mix of properties, ranging from rural farmhouses like Whiteway Barton to modern housing extensions such as Calvados Park. Households with older teenagers attending the local secondary school and sixth form college generate a substantial amount of daily laundry. In these busy homes, a tumble dryer is heavily relied upon to manage the constant flow of clothes, sports kit and uniforms. This means the appliance works hard throughout the week, processing multiple heavy loads back to back. When a dryer is used constantly for large family loads, wear and tear on the internal moving parts is inevitable. A drum that will not turn is usually down to a snapped drive belt, a worn tension pulley, or a failed motor capacitor. If the machine runs but produces no heat, the heating element or the thermal overload cut-out might have tripped or failed entirely. Condenser models can suffer from blocked pumps or fluff-covered sensors, causing the cycle to stop early because the machine incorrectly senses that the water container is full. Heavy loads of thick fabrics like towels can also strain the motor bearings or drum support rollers, leading to a loud, noisy running sound. During a home visit, we look at dryers that stop mid-cycle, refuse to start, or fail to finish their programme. We check the drive mechanisms for drums that will not turn, inspect condenser units and water containers for blockages, and investigate the exact source of any noisy running. We carry out all repair work directly in your property.

A tumble dryer that turns but stays cold usually has a fault with the heating element or the thermal cut-out thermostats. If the machine overheats due to blocked filters, the safety thermostat trips to cut the power to the heater. We can test these components and replace the faulty parts to restore the heating function.

The most likely cause for a drum that will not turn is a snapped drive belt. Over time, the belt stretches and eventually breaks under the weight of wet laundry. Other possible causes include a worn tension pulley or a faulty motor capacitor that prevents the motor from generating enough power to start spinning.

This happens when the pump that moves water from the condenser tray to the container becomes blocked with wet lint. The float switch gets stuck, tricking the machine into thinking the tank is full. We look at condenser and water container faults to clear blockages and get the cycle finishing properly again.
