Know the home, know the fault

Chudleigh is an ancient wool settlement positioned between Exeter and Newton Abbot, situated in the Teign Valley close to the edge of Dartmoor. Properties near rural areas like Haldon Forest or the moorland edge often rely heavily on tumble dryers to manage laundry when outdoor drying is impractical. In these homes, dryers might be placed in utility spaces, kitchens or outbuildings, where they work hard to process heavy loads of outdoor clothing and daily washing. When a dryer runs but fails to heat, the issue is usually a tripped thermostat or a failed heating element. If the drum will not turn at all, a snapped drive belt or a worn motor capacitor is the likely cause. Machines that stop mid-cycle or refuse to start might be suffering from a faulty door switch, a blocked moisture sensor, or a main control board issue. Condenser models rely on a pump to move extracted moisture into the water container; if this pump fails or the container switch sticks, the machine will halt to prevent flooding. Noisy running points to worn drum support rollers, degraded bearings, or a failing tensioner pulley. We repair domestic appliances directly in your home. During a tumble dryer repair, we look at the drive system, heating components, condenser mechanisms and electronic controls to find out why the machine is failing. We also fix washing machines, dishwashers, electric ovens and electric hobs, though we do not work on gas cookers or any gas appliance.

A dryer that spins without producing heat usually has a tripped safety thermostat or a broken heating element. This happens if the machine overheats due to poor airflow from a blocked lint filter or a clogged condenser unit. We inspect the heating circuit and airflow pathways to locate the fault.

If you can hear the motor running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has likely snapped or slipped off the pulley. If the machine is completely silent when you press start, the motor capacitor or the main control board might have failed. We dismantle the casing to investigate.

The machine stops to prevent flooding when it detects that the water container is full. If the container is actually empty, the fault lies with the pump that moves water up from the base, or the microswitch that senses the water level. We test these internal parts during a visit.
