Know the home, know the fault

A household with older teenagers attending the local secondary school and sixth form college will generate a heavy laundry load. When space is limited and a separate tumble dryer is not an option, a combined washer dryer handles both washing and drying in one unit. Running back-to-back wash and dry cycles puts significant strain on the internal components, especially the heating elements, the fan motor and the drum bearings. A washer dryer uses two distinct heating systems within the same cabinet. The washing phase relies on a water heater at the base of the drum, while the drying phase uses a separate heater and fan assembly at the top to circulate warm air. If the machine stops drying and leaves clothes damp, the drying heater, the fan motor or the thermal overload thermostats might have failed. Washing faults can include a machine that refuses to fill, drain or spin. Leaks are another issue, sometimes caused by a degraded door seal or a blocked condenser chamber, which prevents moisture from being extracted during the drying cycle. When visiting a property near Rydon or elsewhere in the area, we look at the specific symptoms your machine is showing. We investigate drying faults where there is no heat or cycles that never finish, as well as washing issues like a failure to drain or spin. We also check for leaks, inspect door seals and trace error codes back to control board faults.

This happens when the machine produces heat but cannot remove the moisture from the drum. The condenser chamber might be blocked with lint, preventing the condensation process, or the drain pump could be failing to clear the extracted water. A faulty fan motor can also stop the warm, damp air from circulating properly.

Leaks during the drying phase usually point to a problem with the condenser system. Washer dryers use cold water to condense moisture out of the warm air. If the condenser valve is faulty or the chamber is blocked with fabric fibres, water can overflow. A damaged door seal will also let water escape.

The machine will abort the spin cycle if it detects that water has not drained away completely. This is a safety feature to prevent damage. The drain filter might be blocked with coins or lint, or the pump itself could be jammed. Worn motor brushes can also stop the drum from turning.
