Homes in Plymouth

Know the home, know the fault

Positioned along the southern coastline with the Plym and Tamar rivers on either side, this location features a varied mix of housing. The local housing stock includes numerous prefabricated properties erected quickly in the nineteen fifties, while post-war construction introduced expansive low density suburban housing. To the east, major new housing settlements are currently under development at Sherford and Langage. In both older utility rooms and newer builds, tumble dryers work hard to keep up with household laundry demands. Proper ventilation is important for vented models, while condenser units need ambient airflow to function efficiently. When a dryer runs but does not heat, the issue is usually a tripped thermostat or a failed heating element. Drums that will not turn point towards a snapped drive belt or worn jockey wheels, though the motor might still be heard running. If a machine stops mid-cycle or will not start at all, the door catch, start switch or main control board could be at fault. Condenser and water container faults happen when lint blocks the condenser matrix or the pump fails to move water up to the drawer. Noisy running is another issue, typically caused by worn drum bearings or support rollers that have degraded over time. Whether a repair is needed in Plympton or closer to the centre, we investigate dryers that will not heat, turn or finish a cycle in your home. Our visit involves checking the heating circuits, drive mechanisms and moisture sensors to find out why the appliance is failing. We repair washing machines, washer dryers, tumble dryers and electric cooking appliances, though we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

A tumble dryer that turns but produces no heat usually has a tripped safety thermostat or a broken heating element. Poor airflow caused by blocked lint filters can cause the thermostats to trip to prevent overheating. We inspect the heating circuit and airflow pathways during a visit to identify the exact fault.

If you can hear the motor running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has likely snapped. Sometimes, the tensioner pulley or drum support wheels fail, which also prevents rotation. Replacing a broken belt requires dismantling the machine to route the new belt around the drum and motor shaft.

When a condenser dryer fails to collect water in the drawer, the pump that lifts the condensed moisture might be blocked with wet lint or electrically faulty. Alternatively, the condenser matrix at the bottom of the machine could be clogged, preventing the warm air from releasing its moisture in the first place.
