Know the home, know the fault
With a large secondary school serving over a thousand pupils and a steady influx of tourists visiting the coastal area, households generate a significant amount of laundry. Residents rely on tumble dryers to manage school uniforms, holiday towels and everyday clothing. In older buildings, dryers might be tucked into smaller utility spaces or kitchens where ventilation can be restricted, making condenser or heat pump models a practical choice for managing moisture. When a tumble dryer runs but fails to heat, the issue is related to the heating element or a tripped thermal overload switch. Restricted airflow from blocked lint filters or a clogged condenser unit forces the machine to work harder, which causes these components to fail. If the drum will not turn at all, a snapped drive belt or a worn motor capacitor is the likely cause. Dryers that stop mid-cycle or refuse to start might have a faulty door catch, a malfunctioning control board or a full water container that has not triggered the empty sensor correctly. Noisy running points to worn support rollers, tensioner pulleys or drum bearings. During a repair visit, we look at dryers that run but do not heat, drums that will not turn, and machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start. We also investigate condenser and water container faults, as well as noisy running. Our service covers electric domestic appliances, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765A dryer that tumbles without heating has a blown thermal overload cut-out or a failed heating element. This happens when airflow is restricted, causing the internal temperature to rise too high. Cleaning the lint filters and the condenser unit helps prevent this, but the damaged components will need replacing.
If you can hear the motor humming but the drum remains still, the drive belt has likely snapped. Overloading the machine puts extra strain on the belt, leading to wear over time. Alternatively, a faulty motor capacitor might be preventing the motor from generating enough power to start the rotation.
Dryers will halt mid-cycle if the water container is full or if the pump system fails to move water to the tank. A faulty door catch can also cause the machine to pause if vibrations make it spring open slightly. We look at condenser and water container faults during visits.
