Know the home, know the fault

In older properties with narrow lanes and stone stairways, bringing in separate laundry machines is not always practical. A combined washer dryer saves space in these historic layouts, and they are also useful in holiday lets where guests want to wash and dry clothes without hanging them up. Because these machines do two jobs in one cabinet, they work hard and rely on complex internal systems to switch between washing and drying phases. When a washer dryer stops drying, the issue might be a failed heater element or a blocked condenser chamber. These machines use water to condense moisture out of the warm air during the drying cycle, so a fault in the water valve can leave clothes damp or cause cycles that never finish. Washing faults are similar to standard machines, including not filling, draining or spinning. Leaks are another issue, sometimes caused by a split door seal or a blocked pump filter. The control board manages the transition from washing to drying, and a fault here will usually trigger an error code or stop the machine mid-cycle. During a visit, we look at the specific symptoms your machine is showing. We test the heating elements, check the condenser unit for lint blockages, and inspect the drain pump and door seals for leaks. If the appliance is not filling or spinning, we examine the motor brushes, drive belt and inlet valves. We repair the appliance in your home.

A washer dryer uses a condenser system to remove moisture from the drum. If the condenser chamber gets blocked with lint, or if the cold water valve that feeds it fails, the machine cannot extract the moisture. A broken heater element or a tripped thermostat will also leave clothes wet.

Leaks from the front are usually caused by a damaged door seal. The rubber gasket can get torn by zips or coins left in pockets. Water can also escape if the door hinges are bent, preventing a tight seal. We inspect the seal and the door alignment to find the source.

The drain pump pushes water out of the drum during both the wash and dry cycles. If a coin or a button blocks the pump filter, the water cannot escape. A faulty pump motor or a blockage in the waste hose will also stop the appliance from draining and spinning.
