Homes in Newton Abbot
Know the home, know the fault
The housing stock in Newton Abbot reflects its history of rapid Victorian expansion, driven by the South Devon Railway locomotive works. The original terraced streets built to house railway workers, along with the attractive villas created for wealthier residents, present different spaces for laundry appliances. In older terraces, a combined washer dryer is a practical choice when utility space is limited. Meanwhile, the newer housing developments on the outskirts, such as those completed at Hele Park, add modern homes where integrated appliances are installed behind cabinet doors to keep a kitchen looking tidy. A washer dryer does the job of two machines in a single cabinet, which means it has a complex set of components. When a machine stops drying, the clothes might remain damp at the end of a cycle, or the cycle might never finish at all. This points to a drying fault, such as a failed heater element or a blocked condenser chamber that prevents moisture from being extracted. Washing faults are just as disruptive, with machines failing to fill, drain or spin. The door seal on a washer dryer is particularly thick to cope with both heat and water, and if it degrades or tears, leaks will appear at the front of the machine. During a visit, we look at the physical components as well as the electronics, investigating error codes and control faults that stop the appliance from operating. Whether the machine is an older freestanding unit or a newer integrated model, we dismantle the necessary sections to trace the fault.

Call 01752 922765A cycle that never finishes usually points to a problem with the heating system or the sensors. If the machine cannot detect that the clothes are dry, or if a blown element means no heat is being generated, the control board will keep the cycle running. We look at the thermostats, heater and control module to find the fault.
Leaks at the front of the appliance are generally caused by a damaged door seal. Washer dryer seals are subjected to high temperatures during the drying phase, which can cause the rubber to degrade over time. We inspect the seal for tears, as well as checking the door hinges and the lock mechanism for proper alignment.
When a machine stops draining, the wash cycle cannot progress to the spin phase. This happens if the drain pump is blocked by debris like coins or buttons, or if the pump motor has failed completely. We check the filter, the pump housing and the waste hose connections to clear blockages or replace faulty parts.
