Know the home, know the fault

The settlement sits just east of Dartmoor, enjoying a milder climate than the moorland. Washer dryers work hard, handling daily laundry in a single drum. A combined machine has to manage two very different tasks in one cabinet, which means there is more hardware packed inside. When a washer dryer stops drying, the problem might be a failed heater element, a tripped thermal thermostat, or a blocked condenser chamber that prevents moisture from being extracted. This leaves clothes damp at the end of a cycle that never seems to finish. Washing faults are similar to standard machines, with blocked drain pumps stopping the water from emptying, worn motor brushes preventing the drum from spinning, or split door seals causing leaks across the utility room floor. When looking at a faulty washer dryer, the first step is checking the error codes and control board to narrow down the issue. We then test the individual components, checking the water inlet valves if the machine is not filling, inspecting the heater matrix if there is no heat during the drying phase, and examining the door seal for tears. We repair electric appliances only, never gas.

If your washer dryer leaves clothes damp, the machine might not be producing heat due to a failed element or a tripped safety thermostat. Alternatively, the condenser chamber could be blocked with lint, preventing the appliance from extracting moisture from the drum. We check these components to find the fault.

A machine that will not empty usually has a blockage in the drain pump filter or the waste hose. Coins, hair grips, or lint can easily jam the pump impeller. If the pump itself has failed electrically, the water stays in the drum and the machine will refuse to spin.

Water leaking from the front of the cabinet points to a damaged door seal. The rubber gasket can develop tears from sharp zips or degrade over time. A worn door hinge or a faulty lock can also stop the glass from pressing tightly against the seal, allowing water to escape.
