Know the home, know the fault
The housing stock in Launceston includes older properties such as Georgian houses, set within a steep landscape that rises from the River Kensey. Launceston is also a destination for tourists visiting the castle and the heritage railway. In older properties, kitchens have often been adapted over the decades, meaning dishwashers might be fitted into unusual spaces. Where homes are used by visitors, appliances might sit idle for periods or face intensive use, which influences how they operate. Dishwashers rely on a sequence of filling, heating, spraying, and draining. A machine that will not drain usually leaves a pool of dirty water in the base, pointing to a blocked filter, a kinked waste hose, or a jammed drain pump. When dishes emerge dirty or covered in food particles, the internal spray arms might be clogged or failing to rotate. Heating faults are another issue; if the element or the thermostat fails, the water remains cold. This leaves plates greasy and completely wet at the end of the programme, as the residual heat needed for drying is missing. Leaks can develop if the main door seal perishes or if the hinges drop, stopping the door from shutting squarely. When we visit a property to look at a dishwasher, whether that is out towards Tregadillett or elsewhere, we work through the appliance to find the fault. We investigate draining problems, water left in the base, poor cleaning results, and spray arm issues. We also test for heating faults, track down leaks, inspect door seals, and diagnose error codes on machines that will not start. We repair electric appliances only, as we do not work on gas.

Call 01752 922765Water left in the base indicates a draining fault. The machine might have a blocked filter, a jammed drain pump, or an obstruction in the waste hose. Dishwashers need a clear path to pump the dirty water away. If the pump cannot push the water out, the cycle stops and leaves the base flooded.
This happens when the dishwasher fails to heat the water. If the heating element or the thermostat is broken, the machine washes with cold water, which cannot dissolve grease. Furthermore, dishwashers rely on the residual heat from the final hot rinse to dry the load, so a cold wash leaves everything dripping wet.
A leak from the front is usually related to the door seal or the hinges. The lower door seal can perish or split over time, allowing water to escape during the wash. Alternatively, if the door hinges have dropped or bent, the door will not close squarely against the rubber, creating a gap for leaks.
