Know the home, know the fault
Properties in Launceston include older housing stock such as Georgian houses, set within a predominantly rural area that supports the surrounding agricultural economy. The town itself is built on a steep landscape that rises from the River Kensey up towards the castle. In rural settings where outdoor work is part of daily life, households generate heavy, damp laundry. A tumble dryer is highly valued for processing thick workwear and winter layers, particularly in older properties where indoor drying space might be restricted. Visitors to the castle and heritage railway support a local tourist economy, meaning some homes process extra laundry for guests, adding to the workload of household appliances. When drying heavy fabrics or large volumes of guest bedding, the internal components of these machines work under considerable strain. A drive belt can snap or stretch from the weight of wet clothes, resulting in a drum that will not turn. Heating elements and thermostats can fail, leaving a dryer that runs but does not heat. In condenser models, fluff accumulation restricts airflow, which can trigger condenser and water container faults, or cause the machine to stop mid-cycle. Worn support rollers, tension pulleys or degraded drum bearings will lead to noisy running as the heavy drum rotates. If the door switch fails, the appliance will not start at all. Our domestic appliance repair business is based in Plymouth. We look at dryers that will not start, drums that refuse to rotate, machines that fail to heat, and units that stop before finishing a cycle. We also investigate condenser issues and noisy running. While we repair electric ovens and cookers, we do not work on gas appliances of any kind.

Call 01752 922765A dryer that tumbles without heating usually has a fault in the heating circuit. The heating element might have burned out, or a thermal overload cut-out thermostat may have tripped to prevent overheating. Restricted airflow from blocked filters can cause these thermostats to fail. We look at dryers that run but do not heat to find the exact fault.
When a condenser dryer stops before finishing a cycle, it is often related to the water collection system. If the water container is full, or the pump that moves water to the container fails, a float switch will halt the machine. Blockages in the condenser unit itself can also trigger sensors that stop the cycle prematurely.
Noisy running is generally caused by worn mechanical parts supporting the heavy drum. The jockey wheels, support rollers or tension pulleys can wear down over time, creating a rumbling or squeaking sound. Degraded drum bearings will also cause significant noise. We investigate noisy running to identify which moving parts have worn out.
