Know the home, know the fault
Properties along the north bank of the River Teign estuary range from Georgian buildings from the early resort expansion to houses constructed after wartime bombing destroyed or damaged thousands of local homes. A kitchen in a seaside holiday let or a newer affordable property relies on a working fridge to keep food safe. Whether the appliance is a freestanding model or tucked into an older property, it needs to maintain a steady internal temperature. The ambient temperature of a room affects how hard a compressor works, and while this area sits in a rainshadow with a slightly milder climate than the moorland to the west, indoor heating still dictates how a fridge performs. A fridge that is too warm or not cooling evenly might have a faulty thermostat or a failing door seal that lets cold air escape. When warm air enters the cabinet, condensation forms, which can lead to water pooling inside the compartments or leaking onto the floor. Ice building up on the back wall is another sign that the appliance is struggling to regulate its temperature. You might notice the compressor running constantly to compensate, or hear clicking and new noises from the back of the unit. These mechanical issues mean the fridge is working harder than it should. We repair appliances in customers' homes. During a fridge repair, we look at thermostats, door seals, interior lights and the cooling system to find out why the appliance is noisy, leaking or failing to hold the right temperature. We also repair washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, freezers, wine coolers, microwaves and electric ovens. We do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs or any gas appliance.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling inside a fridge usually happens when the defrost drain becomes blocked with food debris or packaging. This prevents normal condensation from draining away, causing it to overflow into the base of the cabinet. A repair involves clearing the blockage and checking the drainage system.
A compressor will run constantly if the fridge is struggling to maintain its set temperature. This can be caused by a faulty thermostat, a degraded door seal letting warm air in, or a failing compressor motor. We inspect these components to find out why the appliance is overworking and noisy.
Ice builds up on the back wall when the internal temperature is too low or if warm air is entering the cabinet through a damaged door seal. It can also point to a faulty sensor or thermostat. We look at the seals and temperature controls to identify the underlying fault.
