Know the home, know the fault
Dwellings rebuilt after that event, along with newer properties added later, present different layouts for kitchen appliances. A fridge needs adequate ventilation around its exterior to dissipate heat from the condenser coils. If a unit is pushed tightly against a wall or boxed into a narrow alcove, the compressor has to work harder to maintain the internal temperature. This extra strain can lead to premature wear on cooling components. When a fridge struggles to regulate its temperature, food can spoil quickly or freeze unexpectedly. Ice building up on the back wall or water pooling inside the cabinet usually points to a blocked defrost drain or a failing door seal letting warm air enter. A thermostat fault might leave the interior too warm, while constant running, clicking or new noises indicate the compressor is struggling to cycle off. Faulty lights make it hard to see inside, and worn hinges or seals stop the door from closing flush against the frame, forcing the appliance to run continuously. Whether a property is near the edge of Dartmoor or out towards Chudleigh Knighton, we repair fridges in the home. During a visit, we look at the thermostat, door seals, compressor and defrost system to find out why a unit is leaking, noisy or failing to cool evenly. We also repair washing machines, ovens and dishwashers, though we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765Water pooling inside the cabinet usually happens when the defrost drain becomes blocked with food debris or ice. During the normal cooling cycle, condensation forms on the back wall and drips down into a small gutter. If the drain hole is clogged, the water overflows and collects under the salad crisper drawers.
A fridge will run continuously if warm air is entering the cabinet, which is normally caused by a split or flattened door seal. It can also happen if the condenser coils at the back are covered in heavy dust, preventing the appliance from releasing heat. A faulty thermostat might also fail to signal the compressor to turn off.
Ice builds up when the internal temperature is too low or when humid air enters the appliance. A damaged door seal lets room air inside, and the moisture from that air freezes on the cold rear panel. A failing thermostat can also cause the cooling system to run too long, turning normal condensation into solid ice.
