Know the home, know the fault

Shared accommodation puts extra demand on cooking appliances. The local property mix ranges from historical medieval, Tudor, and Georgian architecture to modern developments like the new town of Cranbrook built a few miles east. In older properties, retrofitting built-in appliances into existing worktops is standard practice. Whether a kitchen serves domestic tourists visiting the area or a busy family household, an electric or induction hob is central to daily routines. When a hob stops working, the symptoms vary depending on whether it uses traditional radiant elements or magnetic induction technology. A solid plate or ceramic zone that will not heat up usually points to a failed heating element or a faulty energy regulator behind the control knob. On glass-top models, touch controls that do not respond are a known issue, sometimes caused by moisture ingress or a failing user interface board. Induction hobs that switch off unexpectedly or display flashing error codes might have cooling fan failures or issues with the main power module. Another fault across all electric cooking appliances is tripping the electrics, which happens when an internal component develops an earth fault. During a visit, we look at zones or rings that will not heat, touch controls that do not respond, error codes, hobs that switch off, and units that trip the electrics. All Appliance Care repairs cooking appliances in your home. We only work on electric and induction models, meaning we do not work on gas cookers, gas hobs, or any gas appliance.

Flashing error codes on an induction hob indicate that the internal diagnostics have detected a fault. This could be a communication error between the user interface and the main power board, an overheating issue caused by a blocked cooling fan, or a faulty temperature sensor under the glass.

When a ceramic heating zone refuses to turn down and remains on maximum heat, the energy regulator or the control relay on the circuit board has likely failed in the closed position. The component can no longer cycle the power on and off to regulate the temperature.

Unresponsive touch controls can happen if the child lock is accidentally activated, or if there is liquid or grease covering the sensor area on the glass. If cleaning the surface does not help, the touch control board itself may have failed or lost its connection to the main module.
