Know the home, know the fault
Tumble dryers in shared housing or holiday lets work hard, processing multiple loads back to back. While the city sits in the rain shadow of Dartmoor and experiences less rainfall than other parts of the region, a working dryer remains essential for busy households. When a dryer runs but does not heat, the issue is usually a blown thermal overload cut-out or a failed heater element. These components fail when airflow is restricted, which happens if lint filters are not cleared between cycles or if the condenser unit becomes blocked. Drums that will not turn point to a snapped drive belt, a worn tensioner pulley or a faulty motor capacitor. If a machine stops mid-cycle or will not start at all, the door catch, the moisture sensors or the main control board might be at fault. Condenser and water container faults, such as a pump failing to move extracted moisture to the drawer, will also halt a drying cycle. Noisy running is typically caused by worn drum support rollers or degraded bearings. We travel to homes across the area, including places like Exwick, to repair domestic appliances. During a visit, we look at dryers that run but do not heat, drums that will not turn, and machines that stop mid-cycle or will not start. We also investigate condenser and water container faults, as well as noisy running. We repair electric kitchen equipment, but we do not work on gas appliances.

Call 01752 922765A dryer that tumbles without heating usually has a tripped thermal overload thermostat or a broken heater element. These parts act as safety mechanisms and will fail if the machine overheats. Overheating is heavily linked to poor airflow, so keeping the lint filters and condenser unit clear of fluff helps prevent this issue.
If the motor can be heard running but the drum remains still, the drive belt has likely snapped or slipped off the tensioner pulley. If there is no motor sound, the motor capacitor or the motor itself might have failed. A seized drum bearing will also physically prevent the drum from rotating.
Dryers rely on moisture sensors inside the drum to determine when a load is dry. If these sensors become coated in fabric softener residue, they give false readings to the control board, stopping the cycle early. A faulty water pump failing to empty the condenser tray will also halt the machine mid-cycle.
